A Chaguanas father was denied bail yesterday, after he appeared in court for allegedly raping his 15-year-old daughter for the second time.
The 38-year-old man, a father of six, appeared before Chaguanas First Court Magistrate Sharon Gibson.
The charge alleged that last month he had sexual intercourse with his daughter “knowing her to be of familial relationship.”
He was not called upon to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
His attorney, Orin Kerr, made an application for bail. However, police prosecutor Sgt Ken Ali objected to bail. Ali said the father was charged previously for a similar offence against his daughter and he had another pending matter of a similar nature.
The father was remanded into custody and the matter adjourned to July 19.
St Michael’s escapees in court today
Five teens who allegedly ran away from the St Micheal’s Home for Boys in Diego Martin will appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate today charged with escaping lawful custody.
The teens went to court yesterday but due to a mix up were not processed in time to appear before a magistrate and will return today. The five are part of a group of six who supposedly vanished from the establishment on Saturday. Two of the boys were allegedly caught on Independence Square on Sunday morning; two more were returned to the institution on Monday; while the fifth teen was caught attempting to purchase fried chicken along Independence Square. The last teen is still on the run.
Police reports are that the teenagers, ages 13 to 18, went missing shortly after 10 pm on Saturday after a search of the dormitory at the rehabilitation unit where they were supposed to be.
