Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Minister of National Security Carl Alfonso yesterday assisted CNC3’s Crime Watch host Ian Alleyne in nabbing a 23-year-old murder suspect who was on his way to the Piarco International Airport.
Alleyne had been investigating an incident where two San Juan men— Darryl Ramcharitar, 39, of Don Miguel Road and Roshad Jones, 20, of Prizgar Road—were gunned down on August 12 at Chandoo Lane, San Juan. Over the two weeks, he received critical information on the identity of the suspect and his daily whereabouts. Yesterday at about 1 pm, Alleyne got word that the suspect was heading to the airport and contacted Persad-Bissessar for her assistance as head of the National Security Council.
Persad-Bissessar referred Alleyne to Alfonso, who himself made his way to the roundabout near the airport, where Alleyne and his security personnel had already intercepted the suspect, who was a front seat passenger in a white vehicle.
Alfonso also arrived on the scene and was able to take the suspect away in his ministerial vehicle to the Piarco Police Station, where the suspect was handed over to officers on duty.
Alleyne commended Persad-Bissessar and Alfonso for their timely intervention in assisting him to apprehend and arrest the suspect.
Alfonso also told Alleyne he was more than happy to assist him (Alleyne) in his crime detection work.
The suspect up to last night was being questioned by officers of the Homicide Bureau.
Investigations are continuing. (RD)
