Homicide detectives are investigating the murders of four men who were killed in separate shootings between last Friday night and Sunday evening.
In the first incident around 9 pm on Friday, police received an anonymous report of a body being found at Railway Road, Enterprise, Chaguanas. When they arrived on the scene they found 19-year-old Enterprise resident Levi Peters dead with several gunshot wounds about his body. Peters was pronounced dead on the scene by a District Medical Officer (DMO).
Investigators believe the teenager was killed at another location and dumped near his home as only a small amount of blood and no spent shells were found on the scene. A motive for his killing is yet to be determined but police believe he may be another casuality of an ongoing gang war in the community.
Several hours later, police were called to a bar in D’Abadie where a patron was shot dead during a drive-by shooting.
Police said around 3 am, Anthony Junior Watson, of Reid Lane, D’Abadie, was liming outside the bar on the Eastern Main Road when a car with two occupants pulled alongside him.
One of the occupants drew a gun and shot Watson several times before the driver drove off. Watson died on the scene. Other patrons at the bar were able to give investigators a description of the vehicle but no one was arrested up to late yesterday.
The next murder took place almost 24 hours later at Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain. Residents of a Housing Development Corporation (HDC) apartment building contacted police around 12.10 am on Sunday after they heard several gunshots in the community.
When Port-of-Spain Task Force (PoSTF) detectives arrived in the area they found Christian Thomas, 21, lying unconscious outside his apartment. Thomas, who had a gunshot wound to his head, was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
The last victim, Don Edwards, was killed around 7 pm on Sunday when gunmen raided his Couva home in an apparent robbery.
The murder toll for the year stood at 264 up to late yesterday. Investigations are continuing. (DA)
