Watson Duke, the president of the Public Services Association (PSA), remained in police custody up to late last night as the investigations into rape allegations against him continued.

Duke was said to be giving statements to investigating officers at the Central Police Station in Port-of-Spain.

He was not charged up to late last night.

Duke has been in police custody since Thursday after a 33-year-old attorney attached to the PSA reported he had raped her.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on Tuesday afternoon after Duke invited her to accompany him to a meeting at the Hyatt Regency in Port-of-Spain.

Duke and the victim went to a room where he is alleged to have overpowered her and had sex with her. After the incident the victim allegedly returned with Duke to the union’s office and then went home.

She later reported the incident to the Cunupia Police Station.

Speaking to the Guardian on Wednesday, Duke denied any wrongdoing.

ASP Ajith Persad of the Port-of-Spain CID is leading investigations.
