Police are investigating the death of an unidentified man, whose body was discovered near Chase Village yesterday.

Around 10.15 am on Saturday, PC Sookhai and PC Henry of the Highway Patrol Unit based at Freeport responded to a report of a body on the eastern side of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, Chase Village, just south of Seereram Brothers Ltd.

Police say upon their arrival they observed the body of an East Indian male, lying motionless in a foetal position with his head facing in a western direction and feet facing in an eastern direction.

The man was said to be in his late 40s, of dark complexion with short black hair. He was wearing a red jersey, white pants and brown shoes.

The District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr Indajit Birjha viewed the body and made a pronouncement.

Police said the crime scene was processed by CSI’s WPC Da Abreau and PC Balkaran.

Around noon, the body was removed by undertakers from Clark and Battoo Funeral Home and escorted by police.

The body was taken for safe keeping to the mortuary of the San Fernando General Hospital.

A post-mortem is expected to be done at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, on Monday.
