Just over one month since the headless body of Eden Nekeisha Teesdale was stuffed in a barrel and dumped in the Mitan River, relatives are wondering why the person she was last seen in the company of has not been held or even questioned by the police.
Teesdale’s aunt, Erica said, numerous people would have seen her niece in a vehicle belonging to the man, shortly before her dismembered corpse was found on March 15. She said two women also went to the San Fernando Police station and gave statements testifying to this, but to date no one has been held in connection with this crime.
“Why, why has the police not questioned him. Did my niece die in vain? This man is moving on with his life as though nothing happened and she dead and gone, without a head, leaving three children without a mother. That cannot be fair,” Erica said during a telephone interview on Monday.
She said the man never visited the family’s home even when Teesdale went missing or after her body had been found.
Teesdale left behind three children—Amyah, five; Kamiyah Ash, three; and one-year-old Hezekiah—who are being cared for by relatives.
She said reports of the body of another woman—Felicia Persad—wrapped in a leather bag and dumped in the same river has brought back all the sad memories of Teesdale’s killing.
“If it was some big minister’s family, the police done pull in already. Where is the justice. If we take justice in our own hands they would lock us up. It is very unfair.”
She said her number was given to the investigating officer from the Manzanilla district as well as to others involved in the investigation.
“But no one is calling me. The police has not contacted us and we don’t know who to contact.
Ellen Lewis, T&T Police Service Manager of Corporate Communications, said yesterday she had spoken to the head of Homicide Bureau who confirmed that the investigations are very active and ongoing.
She said the police was talking to people who were of interest to the investigations.
Teesdale, a hospital cleaner, who lived at the Embacadere Housing Development Corporation (HDC) was identified from fingerprints on police record since 2012 when she applied for a certificate of character while seeking a job at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope.
Her body was severed at the waist and limbs and a tattoo bearing the word Leo (her horoscope sign) was found at the lower back region and a red rose with the word “Empress” was tattooed on the right upper shoulder. The name of her first born daughter Amyah, was also tattooed on her arm.
She was buried on March 29, in a sealed casket. Her head has not been found.
Without a head to examine, the cause of her death remains undetermined.
