The son of a former local government councillor in the Maracas/ Santa Margarita area was stabbed to death on Sunday night following a drunken dispute with a friend.
Police reports stated that around 9.30 pm Aaron Ramsaroop, 21, was with friends at a house at Sambadora Road, off Acono Road, Maracas, St Joseph, when the incident occurred.
Police said the friends began arguing and the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed Ramsaroop in the chest and arms as he tried to defend himself.
After the incident, the suspect fled and Ramsaroop was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Speaking with the media yesterday, the victim’s father, Winston Ramsaroop, who served as Congress of the People councillor between 2010 and 2013, at the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation, said his son was not heeding his advice to focus.
“Youngsters does be wayward. I tried to help him as best as I can. From school he was trying to do an apprentice course with the Fire Service, but due to friends again, he dropped out. He started to work, when I was a councillor I got him some work with some contracts. I am 65 going on 66 at the end of this year, I understand life and I understand that kind of thing. I might be upset but as they say about youngsters ‘they live fast and die young’,” Ramsaroop said.
“Sometimes friends would take you places and would not bring you back. They were having an argument and like one of the men stabbed him, but you see in drunkenness and thing sometimes this would happen,” the father said.
