The Congress of the People (COP) is about “serious politics for serious people,” says political leader Prakash Ramadhar.
In his 20-minute feature address at the Presentation of Candidates Rally on Friday at Trinity College East, he said the country had been polarised and torn apart by racial elections in the past and he gave the assurance it would not happen again.
He said, “That is why we are coming to you today, with serious politics for serious people; people who are serious about the present and the future and serious about our beloved country.”
The COP presented eight candidates.
Ramadhar said voters should look to those who were the best to run the country, those who could handle pressure, and not lose the common touch.
He said, “Look to those who will remain honest, in spite of the temptations to become rich at the expense of our taxpayers.
“Look to those who take action and will speak out against injustice, corruption, and speak out against poor governance without fear or favour.
“This is not the way to go.”
Meanwhile, Dr Rodger Samuel who is seeking re-election told supporters the party should not lose any seats.
Samuel said, “Whatever they have to throw at us, bring it on because we are moving forward.”
He said all gloves were off from Friday night and “the war is on.”
“We must make up our minds that not one of us must lose.
“We must prove a point to this nation that we are not losing any seats.”
