The Bumble Bee Foods has issued a recall for thousands of cans of tuna in the US due to a potential health threat if consumed. Currently Massy Distribution, the company responsible for distributing the product, is trying to determine if these recalled cans are in T&T stores, but no contaminated cans have as yet been found.

A release from the official Bumble Bee website stated, “Bumble Bee Foods is voluntarily recalling specific codes of 5oz Chunk Light Tuna in Water and Oil, due to process deviations which occurred in a co-pack facility not owned or operated by Bumble Bee.“

Bumble Bee found an issue with the sterilisation process that could lead to a life-threatening sickness if eaten. The company said in the US, 31,579 cases of tuna were so far affected by the recall.

“Under-processed affected products could result in product contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens and lead to serious illness if consumed. There have been no reports to date of any illness associated with these products,” the release went on to say.

Terry Ramkissoon, brand manager for Massy Distribution, said: “Currently we have a team investigating. We are checking with our supplier to find out what territory the recalled product was sent to.”

Ramkisson said if there are the recalled products they will do their best to rectify the matter.
