ILP leader Jack Warner says he will do anything he can to remove Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar from office on September 7.
Warner said this during a meeting of his party at the basketball court in Sherwood Park, Arima, on Thursday night.
He told supporters he was responsible for Persad-Bissessar being elected Prime Minister “and it must be I who must remove her from there.”
Warner said, “And if I have to crawl, if I have to creep, if I have to go on my belly, for Kamla to go, I will ensure that (happens).”
Warner, who resigned from the PP Cabinet in 2013 after allegations of wrongdoing in his capacity as Fifa vice president, said Persad-Bissessar “does not know how to govern” and should not be given a second term.
Warner said the campaign being conducted by Persad-Bissessar was stolen from the recent UK election campaign. That claim has been denied by government officials.
Warner said his ILP would not contest the St Joseph and Tunapuna seats so as to allow for a straight fight between the PNM and the PP.
He said, however, the ILP “shall campaign in those two constituencies. We shall tell our supporters in those constituencies who not to vote for, because at no time must we do anything to jeopardise our chances at moving Kamla from office. This election is do or die.”
Warner also responded to claims from the PP that he was not criticising the PNM in his campaign.
“Why should we do that? Rowley is not the Government, he is in Opposition, as we are. So we don’t have to attack the PNM, we attacking Kamla,” Warner said.
Warner claimed the PP was no longer united, adding that the UNC was contesting the polls by itself. “When I buss the next mark you will see scandal,” he said. He said the ILP would be presenting all its candidates on Sunday at Montrose in Chaguanas from 6 pm.
He said an ILP government would deal with the traffic problem in the country by opening the PBR to all motorists, establishing a park and ride system, and building new roads.
He said the PP Government had done nothing significant for the people of the East-West corridor except build police stations and a jail.
