Thieves yesterday broke into the home of Prisons Officers Association president Ceron Richards and stole his licensed firearm and ammunition.
Up to late last night, Richards was at the Barataria Police Station lodging a report on the incident.
Richards told police that he returned to his Don Miguel Road home at 4 pm and discovered his home ransacked.
After checking Richards discovered that his 9mm pistol, two magazines and several rounds of ammunition, which were secured in a safe, had been stolen.
Richards told police that the incident would have occurred some time between 1 pm on Thursday and 4 pm yesterday.
When contacted last night for comment, Richards said that he was okay, but refused to confirm whether or not someone had stolen his firearm.
The T&T Guardian was told by senior police sources that Richards recently moved into the area after alleged threats were made to him where he previously lived, forcing him to leave his previous residential address.
The incident comes in the wake of a series of recent attacks against prison officers and the murder of Fitzalbert Vincent Jr last month. The POA has been clamouring for the Government to implement more security measure for its members since then.
Investigations are continuing.
