As was expected, the father and step-daughter Frances-based combination of Dexter St Louis and Rheann Chung were crowned champions of the Solo National Table Tennis Championship Mixed Doubles competition at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Chaguanas, yesterday.
Competing local for the first time in over five years made little work of their opponents enroute to a first title on home soil since lifting the Reliability Maintenance Services Ltd (RMSL) Super Singles Tournament in December 2009, St Louis, 47, and Chung, 30, defeated Alaric Humphreys and Brittany Joseph in straight sets.
New champions were also crowned in the men’s doubles as WASA Sports Club duo, Curtis Humphreys and national champion Yuvraaj Dookram took top honours while Linda Partap-Boodhan and Catherine Spicer played their way to the women’s doubles title. And in the veterans’ (Over-45) singles draw, David Mahabir emerged champion.
Today (Sunday), te team events will take place while the singles will serve off next weekend and the finals will be contested on August 4.
