Cabinet yesterday agreed to the re-establishment of the National Aids Co-ordinating Committee (NACC) and the construction of five community centres across the country.

So said Communications Minister Maxie Cuffie during the weekly post-Cabinet news conference at the Office of the Prime Minister, St Clair.

The NACC will operate within the Office of the Prime Minister and be headed by a technical director. The amount of money for its reestablishment is yet to be determined, Cuffie said.

He said Cabinet did not address the membership of the committee but said the work would be reviewed six months after it became operational.

Former social development minister Dr Amery Browne was a former technical director of the NACC. It was disbanded under the former PP government.

Cuffie also said Cabinet agreed that the Community Development Ministry would partner with the Urban Development Corporation (Udecott) to construct five community centres in Tarradale, San Fernando; Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, St Ann’s, Bagatelle, Diego Martin and in Diego Martin south at a cost is $40 million.
