General Secretary of the People’s National Movement Ashton Ford says in the five years Dr Keith Rowley has been Opposition Leader, he has faced more attacks in newspaper editorials than the Prime Minister. Ford was speaking at the launch of the PNM’s San Fernando East constituency office on Scott Street, San Fernando, on Monday evening.

“In five years, Dr Rowley came under severe attacks from editors and editorial writers in the media, more than the PM. Isn’t that strange?” Ford asked. “You have a Government where every other day is a scandal, but after five years the Opposition Leader got the most attacks from editorial writers.”

Ford said this behaviour was unfair to Rowley and should be questioned.

“Is that fair? You must ask yourself why. Therefore, when you do not put the pressure on the person who caused so much chaos in this country, where they fired so much ministers and they are not getting any criticisms from the editorial writers in this country, we must understand where the guns are aiming and why.”

He said ‘they’ were fearful of Rowley coming into government.

“There is a fear for Dr Rowley to be in government, because they know when they do wrong, it’s like when you were a child and you know if you do something wrong is licks. They know when the PNM win the elections, they have to answer for the problems they caused in this country.” Ford said there were people who thought that attacking the party’s leader would cause the PNM to fail.
