Four brothers were up to late last night in police custody and being questioned in connection with the deaths of slain students Deneilson Smith and Mark Richards.
Last Thursday, the Success Laventille Secondary School students Smith, 17, and Richards, 16, of Upper Picton Road, Laventille, were dragged from a taxi and shot dead while on their way home. On Friday, Prime Minister Keith Rowley announced that the army would be stationed indefinitely in that community in response to the killings.
Officers of the Inter Agency Task Force, acting on a tip-off, held the brothers at Desperlie Crescent, Laventille on Saturday. The brothers who are between the ages of 25 and 38 are believed to be part of the “Muslim” gang.
While the students were living in “Rasta City” area, which is controlled by an opposing gang, and has been at war with each other for the past few years. Homicide officers are continuing investigations.
