Temporary Opposition Senator Wayne Munro has given the PNM a failing grade for how it is running the country.
He was speaking on the Finance Bill 2016 in Parliament on Friday.
Munro said: “Since the PNM Government came into office there has been no criteria put forward to cater to the poor and the most vulnerable persons in our society.
“The middle and lower income levels of individuals are crying out for help because of the non-performance of the PNM administration.”
He said under the People’s Partnership government there were several cushions available such as laptops in schools, book grants for students, grants for pregnant and single mothers, and the food card.
Munro said the PNM had removed those cushions that were put in place to cater for the poor in the country, and the fiscal adjustments ahead were going to be harsh.
Munro said in some cases there were cries from members of society that the PNM Government was inhumane towards the poor.
Alluding to Finance Minister Colm Imbert, Munro said if his contribution were a mid-term review, he would have given the PNM an “F” for non-performance, bringing retroactive legislation, bringing late implementation of budget measures to the House, not telling the country about a plan to get out of the recession, unattainable revenue targets, raising the borrowing limits, and for being disconnected from the poor who were crying out.
