Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley confirms that he gave assurances of no job losses to the public servants of the former Ministry of Tobago Development. This was contained in a release yesterday from the Office of the Prime Minister.
It said following reports appearing in yesterday’s newspapers regarding short-term contract workers from the former Ministry of Tobago Development, Rowley had reiterated statements made last Wednesday during his visit to staff of the former ministry.
It said no such assurances were given to people employed on short-term contract with the former ministry.
The Prime Minister also noted that a committee was set up to oversee the transition of some services and programmes from the Ministry of Tobago Development to the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) and the Tobago Affairs Division of the Office of the Prime Minister.
It added the Prime Minister had repeatedly stated that his administration would not support anything that undermined the THA or created any duplication of functions in Tobago.
