The Ministry of Education and police are investigating the theft of ten laptop computers from the Princes Town East Secondary School on Tuesday. According to reports, school was in session when a security officer noticed the Information Technology classroom had been broken into.

The T&T Guardian contacted the Ministry of Education yesterday for a response but, up to late afternoon, there was no reply. Police said that around 11 am, estate constable Ryan Ramsingh was doing his routine walkabout when he noticed several cupboard doors in the classroom opened.

He alerted school officials who did an inventory check of laptop computers which were usually stored in the cupboard. The check revealed that ten were missing.

Princes Town police were called in and PC Ali interviewed Ramsingh.  It is not yet known the value of the stolen computers as police said they were awaiting that information from the Ministry of Education. It was just last August that former education minister Dr Tim Gopeesingh reopened the refurbished school located in Petit Bourg, which was plagued with problems, including students falling ill due to faulty air conditioning.

There has also been a history of indiscipline at the school as last October, police were called in to deal with a fight between two students, one armed with a knife.
