A 17-year-old teenager remained in police custody last night for the chopping attack of a woman and her 13-year-old son at their Las Lomas #3 home on Sunday.
Claudia Barcoo Campo, 41, and her son, Nathan, are warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope.
T&T Guardian was told Nathan was in a critical condition and may have suffered severe brain damage. He was severely chopped to the head, shoulder, arms and body.
His mother had to undergo facial repositioning surgery yesterday. She was chopped multiple times about the body and head.
Her three-year-old son, who was asleep in the house at the time of the incident, was unharmed in the cutlass attack. He is said to be in the care of a relative.
According to investigating officers at about 6.30 pm the suspect came to Campo's house, where she operates a plant business, asking for plants he was interested in purchasing.
She reportedly took the potential customer to the area where she had rose plants where she was then attacked. Police said as she turned her back the attacker whipped out a cutlass and chopped her twice to the head.
He then entered the house and attempted to get the keys to the family’s car but was confronted by Nathan.
During a struggle Nathan was chopped and left for dead.
The suspect escaped in the family’s Nissan Tiida vehicle, police said.
Cpl Roach is investigating.
