Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has denied that he snuck off to Barbados for medical reasons. In response to texts from the T&T Guardian, Rowley said he was in Barbados over the weekend to attend the wedding of the daughter of his friend.

His friend is also the president of the Barbados Golf Association. He also confirmed that both Housing Development Corporation chairman, Newman George and his wife, house speaker Bridgid Annisette George were also in attendance.

“I shared the event here with my wife and man friends from Trinidad, Barbados and elsewhere,” he texted on Saturday night.

“What else is there to confirm?” he asked.

Rowley questioned why there was any need to inquire about the nature of his personal trip.

“Am I missing something? he asked.

Rowley said “rumormongering” that he was left the country because he was “seriously ill” was false.

“I played golf with Sir Gary Sobers, Brian Lara and Elvis, the pro from the Sandy Lane Country Club,” he said.

Rowley he will continue golf into the weekend, with games with his Barbados/ Trinidadian  traveling group “which has existed for years and continue to function”.
