A taxi driver was shot dead yesterday on the busy Naparima/ Mayaro Road in Iere Village, Princes Town.
Up to presstime no suspects had been held although the police discovered an abandoned Nissan AD Wagon one mile away from the murder scene.
Iere Village residents reported hearing several gunshots at around 12.55 pm and saw a car parked on the road. When officers arrived at the scene they found Reshan Barran, 32, of Corial Road #2, slumped over in the driver’s seat of the Toyota Royal Saloon.
Barran was taken to the Princes Town District Health Facility where he died.
Officers including Snr Supt Irwin Hackshaw, Insp Don Gajadhar, ASP Yusuf Gafar, Sgt Roland Ramlogan and Sgt Winston Francois found the white AD Wagon abandoned on Friendship Road while searching the area for suspects.
The vehicle had false licence plates.
Police are yet to determine a motive for Barran’s murder. His car was taken to the Princes Town Police Station while the abandoned vehicle was towed to the Ste Madeleine Police Station for processing.
Barran’s sister said the family got a call from police at around 1.15 pm to go to the health facility but, by the time they arrived, Barran was already dead.
