Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) chairman Newman George were in Barbados to attend a wedding yesterday.
The Sunday Guardian was unable to reach George since Thursday and only yesterday discovered that he was out of the country to attend the same event as the Prime Minister. An insider at HDC yesterday confirmed that George is expected to return to T&T later today, as will the Prime Minister.
Communications Minister Maxie Cuffie, contacted by the Sunday Guardian, said he did not understand why Rowley and George’s trip was creating an issue.
“It is a personal trip, he is not on government business,” Cuffie said.
Cuffie said George was Rowley’s friend and was also his assistant campaign manager in the build-up to the September 7 general election.
“That is a matter of public record; he is free to accompany Dr Rowley on a trip,” he said.
