Ricardo Jerome, the man who was charged by police after a viral video of him allegedly beating a woman at an Arima bar, will be allowed to spend Christmas with the woman and her child.
Jerome, 36, was charged last month after a video went viral on social media allegedly showing Ornella Ruth Marchan being kicked about her body and beaten with a metal object.
Yesterday, he appeared at the Third Magistrate’s Court, Arima, before Magistrate Debby Ann Bassaw.
Jerome, who has a child with Marchan, was charged with assault by beating, possession of a weapon and disorderly conduct.
He was ordered to stay away from Marchan, who the court learned had been living at the home of his mother in La Horquetta.
Jerome, through his attorney Fareed Ali, asked the court for an opportunity to spend some time with Marchan for the Christmas season.
Ali told the court he recognised that part of the order of the court was that there may be no contact between the victim and her common-law husband but underlined it was a unique circumstance.
Bassaw requested that police officers speak to the victim, who was in court, to ensure she wanted the interaction with Jerome. The matter was stood down while police spoke to the woman who agreed to spend both Christmas and New Year’s with Jerome.
The matter was adjourned to February 2.
