Investigators say diesel spilled along the Solomon Hochoy Highway may have led to Sunday’s near fatal accident in Tarouba, involving an ambulance.
The T&T Guardian learned firefighters had to use foam and sawdust to clean the road leading up to the Tarouba Interchange where paramedics Kerwin Dick and Ian Chote crashed into a concrete culvert.
Chote, who was the passenger in the ambulance, underwent surgery on both legs after they were broken in the accident.
He remained warded in a stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital and is also being treated for spinal fractures.
Dick, 34, who is being treated for chest injuries and bruises was also in a stable condition.
According to police, the men were in the ambulance around 5.15 am when Dick ran off the road.
Passersby contacted the police, who responded along with the Mon Repos firefighters and another ambulance.
Cpl Heeralal of the Mon Repos Police Station is continuing inquiries.
