The national flag will be flown at half-mast today as the country is mourning the passing of Kamaluddin Mohhamed, a former Cabinet Minister of T&T.
This was announced today from the Ministry of National Security.
All national flags at state and non-state agencies must be at half-mast today.
The Ministry noted:
- The national flag is flown at half-mast or Half-staff when the nation is in mourning. Half–mast means lowering the Flag by its own depth from its normal position at the peak of the staff.
- The national flag should be flown at half-mast today as the funeral for the late Mohammed will be held this afternoon.
- When the flag is flown at half-mast, it is first hoisted to the top of the staff for an instant, and then lowered to the half-mast position.
- Before lowering the flag down for the day, the flag is again raised to the top of the staff.
The Ministry added that when the national flag is at half-mast, other flags on the same stand of poles should also be at half-mast or should not be flown at all. However, flags of foreign nations should not be flown at half mast, unless their country is also observing mourning.
